This tool provides several utilities: convert MAME bezels to Retroarch overlays, so they can be used with any Libretro emulator. Because my custom overlays have artificial scanlines built in, if anyone wants me to make ones without the scanlines so that it would display better on CRT TV's, just ask lol. Overlays (or bezels) are images added 'above' the emulator, to mask the black borders around the image.
This was done on a 16:9 TV, so I'm not sure how it would affect CRT TV's. GitHub - libretro/overlay-borders: A place for collecting decorative/cosmetic overlays for use with RetroArch.

Retroarch overlays how to#
download the "border overlays.zip" at the bottom of this post.Ģ. Ive been getting asked a lot on how to add overlays to Retroarch. When stretched to a 4:3 aspect ratio (so in my case 640x480), the Game Boy screen portion approximately became 400x308 - but this tutorial has it at 400x300 because that's the only way I could get everything to work, since because of how RetroArch Wii works, the overlay has to be the same aspect ratio as the actual viewport.ġ. The main reason for this was that the overlays had been changed in 1.9.13. This overwrites the current 1.9.13 build. I was disappointed when I found out that Gambatte for RetroArch Wii doesn't have Super Game Boy support (both color and border), but with some tricky manipulation of the overlay system, I have found a workaround.įirst of all, the Super Game Boy borders are 256x224 (typical SNES screen resolution), and the actual Game Boy screen portion is 160x144. A ninjafix release was just pushed for RetroArch 1.9.13. I'm a huge fan of using Super Game Boy Borders, to me it just feels wrong to play a GB/GBC game on a TV without a border.
